The beauties of the National Park Mavrovo

Where is the National Park located
Mavrovo National Park covers an area of 73,088 hectares and is situated in western Macedonia. It is also the biggest of Macedonia’s three national parks, along with Pelister and Galicica. Mavrovo was established as a national park in 1949, and its coordinates are 41° 40’N and 20° 46’E. The following mountains are located within the park’s boundaries: Korab, Desat, the majority of Bistra, the northern half of Krchin, the southwestern branches of Shar Mountain, and Korab. The valley and the Radika River basin are included in the Mavrovo National Park’s central region. The national park also includes the man-made Mavrovo lake.
Natural treasures in the National Park
The Mavrovo National Park’s natural wonders beckon you at every turn. There are 30 beautiful caves in Mavrovo, one of which is the Sharkova dupka cave near Rostushe. The lowest glacial lake in Macedonia, Lokuv, is also located in Mavrovo. The stunning Radika river’s picturesque canyon adds to the park’s allure. The varied and distinctive Mavrovo landscape is made up of numerous ravines, sloping hills and waterfalls.
There are more than 52 mountain peaks within the boundaries of the National Park Mavrovo, with the peak Medenica of the Mountain Bistra, Velivar, Sandaktas, and others being more well-known. The peak Golem Korab, which rises 2764 meters above sea level and serves as both the highest point in the Republic of Macedonia and the national park Mavrovo, is given special significance. Mavrovo National Park’s lowest point, which is situated directly where the river Radika and Mala Reka converge, is 600 meters above sea level.
